Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Physiatrists (sometimes confused with, but not Psychiatrists), are physicians that specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also abbreviated as PM&R. This specialty focuses on evaluation, diagnosis, and management of neuromusculosketal conditions. Physiatrists emphasize functional improvements and are involved in rehabilitation, recovery, and prevention of injuries and disease.

MultiCare Yakima Memorial's Physiatrists are involved in evaluating patients with complex musculoskeletal diseases. In addition, they can perform diagnostic testing with nerve conduction studies and for spasticity electromyography. Treatments include various procedures such as botulinum toxin injections for spasticity, joint injections, trigger point injections, ultrasound guided interventions, and other procedures.

MultiCare Yakima Memorial is now offering new ways to treat musculoskeletal conditions through Regenerative Medicine including prolotherapy and platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP).
