Virginia Mason Memorial Lower Valley Speciality Center

Virginia Mason Memorial's Lower Valley Specialty Center brings high-quality specialty care to our patients closer to where they live.

Between 14 and 17 percent of Virginia Mason Memorial's specialty care patients have been traveling from the Lower Valley to Yakima to receive that care, sometimes more than once each week. So Virginia Mason Memorial decided to come to them by opening the Lower Valley Specialty Center.

Patients in need of high-quality specialty care can now receive that treatment close to home by providers who will travel to treat them -- providers they already know and trust. The staff has been chosen to support our Latino community. Bilingual speakers are ready to help all patients who come through our doors in Sunnyside.

Referred by their primary care provider, except for lab and x-ray services, we welcome patients talking to their provider about our Sunnyside location. Virginia Mason Memorial's Specialty Center also supports a healthcare network that is already in place, including Lower Valley hospitals and primary care clinics.

The center is open Monday through Friday and has specialists in the following fields of medicine:

Pain

Many Americans have worked hard and played hard during their lives. It is not unusual for farmers, ranchers and others whose livelihood involves physical activity to suffer chronic pain resulting from work-related accidents and other stresses. Others may experience pain from recreational injuries, surgery, diabetes, lifestyle choices, and other causes.

Providers from Water's Edge pain clinic in Yakima take a broad, multidisciplinary approach to managing many different types of pain.

Cardiovascular

If you or a family member have been diagnosed with a heart condition, you want the best possible care close to home. At Virginia Mason Memorial's Lower Valley Specialty Center you have access to the region's most advanced cardiac care, closer to home.

Our team of cardiologists at the Yakima Heart Center will evaluate your condition, outline the most appropriate treatment options, and support you in making the best decision for you and your family.

Gastroenterology

Yakima Gastroenterology Associates offers a range of adult GI services at the Lower Valley Specialty Center by referral from your primary care provider.

Sleep Center

Providers from Virginia Mason Memorial's Sleep Center are dedicated to educating you with the tools you'll need to improve your sleep quality and treat sleep disorders you may be suffering from.

We'll work with your referring physician to put together a plan that will get you on track for a good night's sleep.

Hematology Oncology

The providers from North Star Lodge offer a range of programs and support services to make sure all patients and families receive helpful and relevant care. Many of our patients benefit from nutritional, financial and genetic counseling along with services from palliative care and social service resources.

Orthopedics

Orthopedics Northwest's goal is simple: to return our patients to normal function as quickly and safely as possible by providing prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of orthopedic and motion injuries.

Lab Services

Committed to providing the highest quality test results, Virginia Mason Memorial's Lower Valley Specialty Center laboratory is part of Memorial's MP Laboratory and facilitates timely diagnostic testing in more than a dozen clinical specialties to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

X-ray

Virginia Mason Memorial has the very latest in imaging tools needed to diagnose medical conditions early so they have a higher likelihood of being treated successfully. Diagnostic imaging is available at the Lower Valley Specialty Center.

Infusion Care

Advances in biotechnology, equipment and medicine have come together to allow Virginia Mason Memorial's Infusion Care Team to serve patients in the lower valley with greater convenience and safety than ever before. Infusion care allows medications to be administered directly into the bloodstream in a comfortable outpatient setting.

Mask Requirements

To minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19, Virginia Mason Memorial (VMM) would like to remind all patients and visitors that masks are REQUIRED at all VMM facilities, including our clinics.

To conserve supplies, we request that all patients and visitors bring masks to their appointments. A limited number of reusable cloth masks, made by community members, will be available if you need one.

We also strongly encourage all community members to wear masks when in public - this is one of our best tools to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

UPDATED! May 26: New Visitation Policy

As a response to the current community situation with COVID-19, we are suspending most in-person visits to our hospitalized patients. The decision to suspend hospital visits was difficult and made only after careful consideration.

Additional Spiritual Resources During COVID-19

Chaplains at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital provide care for every patient regardless of their personal beliefs or non-beliefs. For support, assistance, prayers, and all other spiritual care requests, please email spiritualcare@yvmh.org or call the spiritual care office: (509) 575-8035

Tele-Chaplaincy

There are times when a direct face to face spiritual care conversation is not the best option (due to distance, a pandemic, patient preference). That's where Tele-Chaplaincy provides another possibility. You can request chaplain support using your personal, or hospital room, phone. Calls are confidential. Chaplains will listen, provide encouragement, offer help and resources, and if desired, offer prayer. If you are part of a faith community a chaplain can help you connect with them.

Virtual Chaplaincy

Without regular visits from family and friends a stay in the hospital can be even more challenging. One of our newest offerings, Virtual Chaplaincy using Zoom, helps make connections. By contacting the Spiritual Care team at the email or phone number above you can request a Zoom meeting. Family and friends throughout the Yakima Valley, from the four corners of the state, from across the country and even internationally, are meeting with patients via Zoom to offer their love and support. Due to the popularity of this option scheduling and frequency may, at times, be limited.
