A hospital is a lot like a small town - we provide shelter, food, water, and care around the clock. Because of this, health care is one of the most resource intensive industries in our country. Yakima Valley Memorial is reducing our resource use by implementing energy and water conservation projects.
We strive to reduce our impact by tracking our greenhouse gas emissions from metered energy use and strive to reduce our energy use by 3 percent from baseline each year.
Health care generates more than 5.9 million tons of landfill waste per year, according to Practice Green Health. Waste in landfills is a long-term burden to communities. As the largest employer in our community we are doing our part to keep our community healthy by refusing, reducing, reusing and recycling as much as we can. We strive to achieve a 15 percent recycling rate compared to total waste.
Yakima Valley Memorial has been providing care to members of our community for 70 years.
