Passport to Health®
Here at Memorial, we know that good health is both essential to learning and serves as the foundation of a full life—and local school districts in the Yakima Valley agree. That’s why the hospital collaborates with local schools to provide a unique, comprehensive health education program called Passport to Health®.
A team of Memorial educators teaches this 13-lesson curriculum throughout local elementary schools, reaching more than 2,000 youngsters annually.
The research-tested curriculum presents a range of health topics including nutrition, heart health, and resisting smoking—all in an engaging, high-impact delivery that relates to the students’ concerns. Everything is designed to make kids think about their own choices and learn to take personal responsibility for their health.
Students all across the Valley are getting an opportunity to take part in unique classes like “Heart Junction,” which teaches the basics of cardiovascular health, or “Mount Foodji,” which focuses on making good nutritional choices. Other popular topics include oral health, hygiene and personal safety.
A special component of this program teaches students to take responsibility for their own health by staying safe, and resisting messages and situations that may harm them.
Passport to Health® is just one of the many ways we care for the overall health of our community and our students, and how we contribute to their education to support full, active lives.
