Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease that can be managed through lifestyle changes and medication. Nearly 21 million Americans have diabetes and at least 54 million people over age 20 have pre-diabetes. Memorial’s Diabetes Education Services use education as the key to controlling diabetes.
Memorial’s diabetes education department provides a genuine understanding of diabetes self-management. The department is committed to helping those with diabetes gain the skills and confidence needed to successfully manage their disease by providing the following resources:
- Sure Start—three-hour class designed for those newly diagnosed.
- Take Charge—two-day comprehensive
- learning experience led by a team of professionals.
- Free monthly Diabetes Dialogs—support group.
- Gestational diabetes counseling.
- Carbohydrate counting.
- Insulin pump training.
- Insulin initiation training.
- One-on-one counseling.
- Foot screenings.
