Diabetes Education

Diabetes is a serious, chronic disease that can be managed through lifestyle changes and medication. Nearly 21 million Americans have diabetes and at least 54 million people over age 20 have pre-diabetes. Memorial’s Diabetes Education Services use education as the key to controlling diabetes.

Memorial’s diabetes education department provides a genuine understanding of diabetes self-management. The department is committed to helping those with diabetes gain the skills and confidence needed to successfully manage their disease by providing the following resources:

  • Sure Start—three-hour class designed for those newly diagnosed.
  • Take Charge—two-day comprehensive
  • Health Matters Ad
  • learning experience led by a team of professionals.
  • Free monthly Diabetes Dialogs—support group.
  • Gestational diabetes counseling.
  • Carbohydrate counting.
  • Insulin pump training.
  • Insulin initiation training.
  • One-on-one counseling.
  • Foot screenings.

Memorial’s diabetes education service is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for “excellence in education."
