    Keep Rhythm In Life

Uzma Ramzan, MD

As a sleep physician at Memorial Sleep Center, Uzma Ramzan largely takes care of people with obstructive sleep apnea. Using machines to help her patients breathe, Uzma can help treat a variety of sleeping disorders. A love of the mountains, the outdoors, and the patient centered atmosphere at Memorial Sleep Center are a few things that brought Uzma to Yakima and will continue to keep her here.

  1. What inspired you to choose medicine as a career?
I remember telling people when I was younger that I might become a physician, but I don't really think I clearly knew that I was going to enjoy it until my clinical years in medical school.
  2. Do you have a philosophy or approach to working with patients?
I think they're looking for somebody to hear them and someone to spend time with them. I'm very candid with my patients. I also think it's important that they know that someone cares.
  3. What do you appreciate most about the doctors and staff you work with?
I'm actually encouraging two of my very good friends to come here. I think the employee satisfaction here is great because they are very patient-centered. They are so patient-centered that the emphasis is not on speed and numbers, but on the quality of care we deliver. It is a wonderful place to come and work.
  4. What do you like about Yakima?
I like the outdoors and being close to the mountains. When I interviewed here, I really liked the team. The emphasis on patient care and quality of care was very important and I felt like this was a place I could see myself working.
  5. Tell me a little known fact about you or talk about what you like to do outside of work.
I was born in Africa and I lived in the Middle East. My parents are originally from Pakistan. I think I probably got the gypsy genes because I love traveling. I've traveled some, but it's still not enough. I've also lived in quite a bit of the U.S. I trained in Chicago for my residency, and then I moved south to Tennessee and then further south to Emery for about five years. I also lived in Alaska and worked with the Alaskan Native Medical Center for about a year and a half doing locums.
