We believe improving health will transform Yakima-that better health connects us to a strong future. According to Memorial's 2013 community health needs assessment (CHNA), the three leading chronic conditions affecting our community are high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity-all three of which are risk factors for developing heart disease, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.
According to the CHNA, in Yakima:
The good news is that these conditions are preventable. By increasing physical activity and eating right, we can change these statistics and move toward a healthier Yakima. Healthy Yakima is designed to provide useful information and educational tools, as well as a platform for conversations about how we can work together to create a healthier community.
Tell us about the health challenges you are facing and the ways you are working to improve your health. Your comments and suggestions are important and will help shape future issues of Healthy Yakima. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Healthy Yakima!
